Aerial Interpretation 9, 2018
Oil, Graphite, Oil Stick on Canvas
24 x 18 x 1.50 in
Aerial Lancscape 9. Inspired by landscape photos taken by his DJI drone, he draws abstract compositions in charcoal, graphite or Conte Crayon. He then lays on the paint in a modern way, hoping to catch the essence of the medium. The layers, the drips, the action of a buttered painting knife, thick layers, thin layers, runny layers. Motherwell, deKooning, Hoffman, Frankenthaler, Diebenkorn and others paved the way for the freedom to paint so the story on the canvas is equally told by the paint, graphite, charcoal, etc. used as the composition being painted.
