Steven is strongly influenced by Richard Diebenkorn's work. He especially loves Diebenkorn's design, his pentimenti, his colors.
Steven understands and agrees with Hans Hoffman that all abstract paintings should begin with real- a figure, a still life or a landscape.
He hopes Abstract Landscape From the Air is a compliment to his love for Diebenkorn and Hoffman and their approaches to their paintings.
