Steven often gets inspiration for a new painting by editing and cropping photos of previous paintings on his I Phone.
This painting was inspired by a smaller abstract landscape painting; so even though this composition is based on a crop of another piece, the abstract shapes and composition are of the landscape. Steven draws directly on the canvas with various tools - pencil, crayon, charcoal then goes tp painting from there. He edits and paints over and paints out areas as he goes. Steven intends for pentimenti and harmony in the end.
